Book Review: Confessions Of A Dope Dealer

I wanted to start this blog off with a book review so I sat down in front of my book shelf and thought long and hard about all the different books I have. The books range from books I've read so many times the pages are starting to fall out to ones I wouldn't read again without some seriously mind numbing substances. Thankfully I chose to re-read one of my favorites.

To be completely honest this book was a random find, like a coal miner finding a diamond, I was at the bookstore looking for a zombie/post apocalyptic  kind of book when I happened to find this book sitting on a shelf completely in the wrong section. By just looking at the cover I new I had to at least give it a chance and away I went to the cash register. After I got home I sat back and started to enjoy immersing myself in the world of Sheldon Norberg.

It might have been that we had very similar lives growing up in northern California or that he just has a style of writing that allows you to become a part of his world.  He takes you on a trip through his life, starting before he had even seen his first baggie of pot, to his days of growing pounds in the sunny summer mountains of Humboldt County.

Sheldon is a bright kid with endless possibility ahead of him, straight A's through high school and involved in the debate team. Yet before school you can find him bonging out with his friends, during breaks between classes he is selling nickle and dime bags from his locker, all the while he is what most people would see as a all around "good kid". From his small dealings of weed to selling pounds, taking LSD for enlightenment to completely frying, whippets to 40 pound tanks of nitrous, this is one book that will leave you with a bit of wisdom and a clear look at how quickly things can get out of control.

This is a book that a lot of people can appreciate, but few will truly see the wisdom behind the forest of dreads and the glassy eyes of the author. This book helps you to see why just making something illegal and telling lies about it is never a good answer. While I might not agree with everything in this book I will say it will be on my book shelf for many years to come.

Rating:
I give this book a 4.5 out of 5... a definite must read!
